The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) foiled the attempt of 37 Rohingyas, including women and children, to enter Bangladesh from Myanmar by crossing the Naf River near Teknaf, Cox's Bazar, last night (Oct 12).
The incident occurred around 9 pm at the Keruntoli border point in Sadar union, according to Lt. Col. Mohiuddin Ahmed, commander of BGB's Teknaf-based 2nd Battalion.
Of the 37 Rohingyas, 19 were children, 11 were women, and 8 were men. Lt. Col. Ahmed explained that the group crossed the zero point of the Naf River in several boats, but BGB personnel, who were conducting a routine patrol, intercepted them and escorted them back.
The BGB remains on heightened alert to prevent unauthorized border crossings, Mohiuddin Ahmed added.
