A gas cylinder explosion on a bus in Lakshmipur’s Sadar upazila early Monday claimed the lives of three people and left nine others injured.
The victims were identified as Suman Hossain, son of Batu Mia, and brothers Md Yusuf Mia and Hridoy Hossain, sons of Sujamia. They were residents of the Charmonsha and Banchanagar areas in Sadar upazila.
Among the injured were Suman Hossain, Rocky Islam, Muhammad Fahad Hossain, Siraj Mia, Hriday Islam, Shah Khan, and Abdul Malek. Nine of the critically injured were transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
The incident occurred around 2 am at the Green Life Filling Station in Muktiganj, when a Ramgati-bound bus from Meghna Paribahan was being refueled.
According to witnesses, the explosion happened suddenly, killing three on the spot and injuring others, including both bus passengers and nearby CNG-run autorickshaw drivers.
Humayun, security personnel of the filling station, confirmed that many of the injured were CNG drivers. Firefighters from Sadar upazila responded to the scene with two units, recovering the bodies and rescuing the wounded.
According to locals, the explosion was caused by a faulty gas cylinder.
