A Dhaka court on Thursday imposed travel ban on former army Chief Aziz Ahmed and his wife Dilshad Nahar Kakoli over graft allegations.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammad Ash Shams Zaglul Hossain passed the order, allowing a plea of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Deputy Director of ACC Md Zakaria filed the plea, while public prosecutor Mahmud Hossain Jahangir moved the petition before the court.
According to the case documents, the former army chief through misuse of power indulged in massive corruption and amassed huge wealth in his name and the names of his family members. He is accused of laundering money abroad and launching businesses in Malaysia, Singapore and Dubai.
The ACC in its plea said the former army chief and his family members are trying to escape the country to evade justice, so for trying them for their alleged crimes, travel ban should be imposed on them.
