Three more advisers to interim govt sworn in

More three advisers were sworn in on Sunday (Nov 10) as members of the advisers’ council of the interim government, led by Nobel Laureate Dr. Mohammad Yunus.

The ceremony took place at 7:30 pm in the Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban, with President Md. Sahabuddin administering the oath to the new advisers.

The newly sworn-in advisers are Sheikh Bashir Uddin, a prominent businessman, filmmaker Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, and Mahfuz Alam, the Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser.

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, members of the advisory council, diplomats, and senior government officials were present at the ceremony.

Sheikh Bashir Uddin is the Managing Director of Akij-Bashir Group, one of the country’s leading industrial groups and the son of Akij Uddin. Mostofa Sarwar Farooki is a well-known filmmaker, recognized for his work in film and television over the past few decades. Mahfuz Alam, a coordinator of anti-discrimination student movements and a law student at Dhaka University (2015-16), served as Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser before being sworn in as an adviser.

The interim government, led by Professor Yunus, was formed on August 8 with 17 members following the resignation of Sheikh Hasina amid student and public protests. Four more advisers joined the council later in August.
