The photo of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was reportedly removed following the oath-taking ceremony of three new advisers in the Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban.
One of the newly appointed advisers, Mahfuz Alam, shared this information on his Facebook profile on Monday (Nov 11) afternoon.
He wrote, “The picture of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the post-71 fascist, has been removed from the Darbar Hall. Since August 5, we hadn’t been able to remove his photo from Bangabhaban, which is embarrassing for us.”
He added, “We apologize, but as long as the spirit of the July movement lives on, his photo will not be seen anywhere.”
The three new advisers of the interim government took their oath in the Darbar Hall yesterday, with a portrait of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman behind them. The event sparked criticism, and coordinator Hasnat Abdullah posted on social media in protest.
He commented, “We spend the entire day trying to resist the League and chant, ‘Mujibism (Mujibbad), down with it,’ and yet they take the oath with Mujib’s picture in the background.”
Many others also shared their reactions on social media regarding this incident.
