JESSORE: A person was killed in a ‘gunfight’ between Rapid Action Battalion and his cohorts at Shalbon near to Malopara under Abhaynagar upazila early Friday.

The deceased was identified as Mezbahur Rahman, 42, chief of Mezbah Bahini, a terrorist group,.

Abhaynagar thana officer-in-charge Khabir Uddin Molla told banglanews “On information that members of Mezbah Bahini, led by ringleader Mezbahur Rahman, were  holding clandestine  meeting at Shalbon near to Malopara at 4:30am, a RAB team rushed to the spot.

Sensing the Rab members’ presence, criminals opened fire on them, forcing the lawmen to retaliate that triggered a `gun fight`.

Mezbah was caught in the line of fire and injured critically.

Others managed to flee the scene.

Later, the injured was rushed to Upazila Health Complex where duty doctor declared him dead.

The elite force, however, recovered a pistol, a single-barrel gun from the spot.
