MANIKGANJ: Shipping Minister Shahjahan khan Tuesday said special preparation has been taken in terminal areas to ensure hassle-free journey of the homebound people ahead of Eid, as people by their thousand started heading for native places to celebrate the festival.

He listed the initiatives taken to ease the passengers’ transportation sufferings while visiting Paturia-Doulatdia ghat on Tuesday morning.

“The administration has been asked to take special measures to ensure that extra fares are not charged and overloading is avoided. The Shipping Ministry has formed a committee for monitoring the ghat areas,” said the minister.

Replying to questions from journalists, the minister said two utility ferries have been brought for transportation of goods-laden trucks on the route.

The ferries would join the main ferry fleet before Eid, which will reduce the pressure on passenger-carrying vehicles.

“RAB and armed police would be deployed along with the police to ensure the highest security of the passengers,” he said.
