At least five people were killed in two separate road accidents in Dhaka in the early hours of Sunday.
Three pedestrians were killed when a truck ran over them at Azampur intersection in Uttara around 3am today.
Md Golam Mostafa, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Uttara East Police Station, confirmed the matter.
Two of the victims died on the spot, while the third succumbed to injuries at a hospital. Police have yet to confirm their identities. The truck has been seized and the bodies were sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital morgue.
In another incident, two youths were killed after a speeding motorcycle collided head-on with a microbus on Bijoy Sarani Link Road under Kafrul Police Station.
Md Abdullah Al Mamun, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kafrul Police Station, confirmed the accident.
Tejgaon Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Jannatul Ferdous Badal said they rescued the injured duo after receiving a call through the national emergency helpline 999 and took them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, where doctors later declared them dead.
The two were not wearing helmets and were wearing shorts and T-shirts at the time of the accident, he added.
Police have kept the damaged motorcycle and microbus at Kafrul Police Station. They are trying to identify the victims.
