National Consensus Commission resumes second-round talks

The National Consensus Commission on Sunday began the seventh day of its second round of meetings in Dhaka.

Representatives from around 30 political parties, including the BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Andolon, Ganosamhati Andolon and the NCP, are attending the talks.

The meeting started in the morning at the Foreign Service Academy on Bailey Road.

According to commission officials, today’s discussion will focus on unresolved issues in the proposed reform agenda, including the state’s fundamental principles, the proposed bicameral parliament and election method for the upper house, the formation of appointment committees for constitutional and statutory bodies, the presidential election system, and ensuring women’s representation.

Earlier, the first six days of the second round saw discussions on nine agenda points among the political parties.

The session is being moderated by Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant Monir Hayder.

National Consensus Commission Vice President Prof Ali Riaz, and members Badiul Alam Majumdar, Justice Md Emdadul Haque, Iftekharuzzaman and Md Ayub Mia are also attending.
