Chankharpul crimes case: Probe report due April 22

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) today set April 22 as the deadline for submitting the probe report in a crime against humanity case linked to the July-August mass uprising in the Chankharpul area of the capital.

The three-member tribunal, led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder, passed the order after granting the prosecution's plea for additional time.

Prosecutor BM Sultan Mahmud confirmed the matter to the media.

The case, registered as ICT BD Misc 1/25, involves three accused — then officer-in-charge (operations) of Shahbagh Police Station Arshad Hossain, and constables Imaj Hossain Pramanik and Sujon Hossain — all of whom were produced before the tribunal today. The prosecution sought two months to file the probe report.

The tribunal also placed Arshad Hossain and Imaj Hossain Pramanik on a one-day remand each, with Arshad scheduled for interrogation on March 2 and Pramanik on March 3.
Besides, then sub-inspector of police Chanchal Kumar Sarkar was placed on a one-day remand on February 27.

Chief Prosecutor Muhammad Tajul Islam, along with prosecutors BM Sultan Mahmud, Shahidul Islam Sardar, and Gazi MH Tamim, represented the prosecution during the hearing.
