In observance of July Uprising Day, the Posts and Telecommunications Division has declared July 18 as “Free Internet Day.”
As part of the initiative, all mobile phone users across Bangladesh will receive 1 GB of data at no cost.
According to a directive issued by the System and Services Department of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) on Wednesday, the free data will be valid for five days from the day of activation.
The BTRC earlier instructed all mobile network operators on July 9 to ensure the distribution of this 1GB data package to their subscribers on July 18. The initiative has been introduced as a tribute to the spirit of the July Uprising and aims to fulfil the people's aspirations through enhanced digital connectivity.
Subscribers can activate the free data by dialing the following codes on July 18: Grameenphone: 1211807#, Robi: 41807#, Banglalink: 1211807, Teletalk: 1111807#
The Posts and Telecommunications Division said the decision was taken in the public interest and in remembrance of the historic significance of July 18.
