The government has urged everyone to set air conditioners at a minimum of 25°C in offices and homes to save power this summer.

According to a Cabinet Division circular, the electricity demand would largely increase this year as the summer would coincide with the month of Ramadan and irrigation season.

“The (increased) demand could be controlled through using AC thermostat at fixed temperature,” the circular said.

It said the notification was issued in line with a Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources Ministry advisory ahead of the upcoming summer.

“Under the circumstance, all public, autonomous, statutory and private institutions are requested to implement appropriately the decision to keep the temperature level of their air condition machines at 25°C or above,” the circular read.

The government has asked the commerce and social welfare ministries, along with the NGO Affairs Bureau, to inform the private sector and voluntary organizations about the decision.
