Jewellery businessman shot and robbed in capital's Banasree 

A businessman was shot and robbed in the capital’s Banasree area on Sunday night, as muggers fled with his gold jewellery and cash.

The victim, 45-year-old Anwar Hossain, was attacked around 10:45 pm in front of House No. 20 on Road No. 7 in Banasree D Block.

Rampura Police Station’s duty officer, Md. Mohsin, confirmed the matter.

He said that law enforcement arrived at the scene shortly after the incident. Officer-in-Charge Ataur Akand and senior officials were present to assess the situation.

Anwar sustained bullet wounds to his hands and legs and was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around midnight, said DMCH Police In-Charge Faruk Hossain.

From his hospital bed, Anwar recalled the terrifying attack. The owner of ‘Alankar’ jewellery shop in Banasree C Block, he was heading home after closing his shop for the night, carrying 200 bhoris of gold and Tk 100,000 in cash. Suddenly, armed men ambushed him.

Footage of the incident circulating on social media shows four attackers arriving on two motorcycles. The video captures them opening fire on Anwar before seizing his valuables. Despite his desperate cries for help, the assailants managed to escape.

Police have launched an investigation into the attack, and further updates will follow as more details emerge.
