Two young cousins drowned in a pond in Barla village of Monohorganj upazila in Cumilla on Friday.

The deceased were identified as Abdul, 3, son of Main Uddin, and Mahadi, 4, son of Mohin Uddin. They were both residents of the same house and were playing in the yard when the incident occurred.

According to locals and police, family members were busy with cooking when the children were playing nearby. It is believed they accidentally fell into the pond. After nearly an hour, their bodies were found floating in the water.

They were rushed to a private hospital in Natherpetua Station Bazar, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.

Monohorganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Bipul Chandra Dey said a police team visited the scene and further steps are being taken.
