March for Gaza: Dhaka’s solidarity with Palestine draws thousands

Thousands gathered in Dhaka today (April 12), for the ‘March for Gaza,’ a protest against the ongoing violence and alleged genocide in the Gaza Strip.

The event, called by the Palestine Solidarity Movement Bangladesh, was set to begin at 3 pm at Suhrawardy Udyan, but people from all walks of life started arriving early in the morning.

Participants waved Palestinian flags and donned protest banners, as they walked united toward the park, their voices calling for justice.

By 9 am, crowds of locals, including many Muslims, were already seen entering through the back gate of Dhaka University’s Raju Sculpture, carrying flags and placards that denounced the violence in Palestine.

Their faces reflected a mix of anger and resolve, as they prepared to make their voices heard.

Volunteers were stationed at key entrances to Suhrawardy Udyan, ensuring the event remained peaceful and orderly.

Local vendors near Dhaka University’s TSC and surrounding areas proudly displayed Palestinian flags alongside the national flag, further reinforcing the unity of the cause.

Shahina Al Mansur, a businesswoman from Narayanganj, shared her reason for attending: "The genocide happening in Palestine against Muslims is unacceptable. That’s why I’ve come here to protest."

Participants of all ages and backgrounds, irrespective of political affiliation, joined the march.

Many stressed that their participation was not just about showing support for Palestine, but a call for the preservation of humanity itself.
