Dhaka ranked 10th on the list of the world’s most polluted cities on Wednesday morning, recording an Air Quality Index (AQI) score of 133 at 9:40am.
The capital’s air was classified as “unhealthy for sensitive groups,” posing health risks to children, the elderly, and people with respiratory issues.
Dubai topped the list with an AQI of 686, followed by Delhi (191) and Wuhan (172).
The AQI measures pollution levels using data on key pollutants, including PM2.5, PM10, and harmful gases. In Bangladesh, air quality tends to worsen in winter and improve during the monsoon.
Air pollution remains a major global health threat, with the WHO linking it to around seven million deaths annually.
