Meherpur BNP leader abducted and slaughtered

CHUADANGA: A BNP leader and UP chairman of Meherpur district was abducted and slaughtered here by armed assailants on Monday night, police said.

Police recovered the beheaded body of Nazrul Islam, organizing secretary of Meherpur Sadar upazilla unit of BNP and chairman of Pirojpur union, from Kaliabokri village in Damurhuda upazila on Wednesday morning.   

Damurhuda thana OC Shikder Moshiur Rahman said about a dozen armed miscreants picked up Nazrul from in front of a tea-stall near his house on Tuesday night and brought him to Kaliabokri village.

“The assailants hacked and slaughtered Nazrul on the bank of a canal at the village in the night. They severed the victim’s head and fled the scene blasting bombs,” police said, quoting an eyewitness account of the killing.

On information, a joint team of RAB and police led by RAB Deputy Assistant Director Nurul Islam rushed in and recovered the body on Wednesday morning.
