A woman and her young son died after a speeding bus hit their motorcycle at Kumira Kadamtala intersection in Satkhira’s Patkelghata upazila on Friday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Rita Sadhu, 30, and her son Sourav Sadhu, 3, from Kapilmuni in Khulna district.
According to police and locals, Rita’s husband Apurba Sadhu was riding the motorcycle with his wife, son, and daughter on their way to visit relatives in Sagardari, Jessore. As they reached the intersection on the Satkhira-Khulna highway, a Satkhira-bound passenger bus struck the motorcycle from behind and fled the scene.
Rita and her son died on the spot. Apurba and their daughter Shova Sadhu, 9, suffered injuries and were taken to Satkhira Sadar Hospital for treatment.
Patkhelghata Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mainuddin confirmed the matter.
Police have recovered the bodies and sent them for autopsy, he said, adding legal steps are underway regarding the incident.
