DMP urges protesters to avoid road blockades

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has urged all concerned to refrain from blocking roads, citing severe traffic congestion and disruptions across the capital.

In a statement issued on Monday (May 12), Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Talebur Rahman highlighted the growing impact of road blockades linked to protests and demonstrations.

"These disruptions are causing significant inconvenience to commuters, including students, office-goers, and those traveling abroad. Critically ill patients requiring urgent transportation are also facing delays," Rahman said.

The statement emphasized that despite efforts by DMP’s Traffic Division to manage congestion, unexpected road blockades continue to exacerbate traffic-related challenges.

Rahman urged all stakeholders to consider the larger interests of city residents, stressing that road blockades should not hinder essential movement and public services.

"We request all concerned to avoid unnecessary disruptions and support proper traffic management," he added.
