Two people were killed in a road accident when a speeding dump truck rear-ended a container truck on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in the Thakur Dighi Bazar area of Mirsharai early today (June 22).

The accident occurred at 7:30 am in the Dhaka-bound lane near Thakur Dighi Bazar on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway.

The deceased have been identified as Faruk Hossain, 39, the dump truck driver from Bosu Mia Para in Matiranga, Khagrachari, and his assistant Robiul Islam, 35, from the Chakkartaile area in Delduar, Tangail.

Police said the accident occurred when the dump truck, while attempting to overtake, crashed into the rear of the moving container truck. 

The front of the dump truck was badly mangled, killing both the driver and his assistant on the spot.

Sub-Inspector Borhan Uddin of Zorarganj highway police station confirmed the incident.

The bodies were sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for autopsy. The vehicles involved in the crash have been taken into custody, he said.
