Two people were killed and another injured when a passenger bus rammed into two stationary trucks on the side of the Dhaka-Khulna highway in the Dumdia area of Gopalganj Sadar upazila early Friday (July 4).

The deceased were identified as Afaran Fakir, 35, the driver of one of the trucks from Khulna, and Yasin Molla, 18, his helper, from Gopalganj.

Gopalganj Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mir Md Sajedur Rahman confirmed the matter.

He said the accident occurred around dawn when the trucks had broken down on the highway.

Sub-Inspector (SI) of Kashiani Highway Police Station said a truck carrying dragon fruit and guavas from Keshabpur in Jashore broke down in the Dumdia area along with another truck. The drivers and helpers had parked the trucks by the roadside and were attempting repairs when a passenger bus hit them from behind.

Afaran died on the spot, while Yasin and another truck driver sustained serious injuries. Locals rushed them to Gopalganj 250-Bed General Hospital, where doctors declared Yasin dead. The third victim is currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
