Two people were killed and five others sustained serious injuries when a bus lost control and plunged into a roadside ditch in Goyalmara area of Harbang union under Chakaria upazila in Cox’s Bazar late Thursday night.

The accident occurred around 11:45pm on July 3. 

The deceased were identified as Mohammad Faruk from Hwaikong in Teknaf and Sheikh Enam from Sudharam in Noakhali. The identities of the injured were not immediately available.

Eyewitnesses and locals said the Hanif Paribahan bus was heading to Cox’s Bazar from Chattogram when it lost control and veered off the road into a ditch. A part of the vehicle remained submerged after the fall.

Chiringa Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ariful Amin said the two bodies have been kept at the station and the bus has been towed. Locals rushed the injured to nearby hospitals.
