No plan to send burn victims abroad for treatment: Director

There are currently no plans to send the burn victims of the Uttara plane crash abroad for treatment, the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery acting director Professor Md Nasir Uddin said on Wednesday.

A total of 44 burn victims are currently admitted to hospital, with eight in critical condition, 13 in the Severe Burn Intensive Care Unit (CBICU), and the remaining 23 receiving treatment at the intermediate level.

Speaking to journalists at the institute in the afternoon, the acting director confirmed the figures and said that, for now, no decision has been made to transfer any patients abroad.

Meanwhile, the Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) confirmed 31 deaths in the crash as of Tuesday noon. 

However, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in its latest update reported 27 fatalities, including 23 children. By night, the death toll rose to 32.

Health adviser Noorjahan Begum earlier told reporters that many of the deceased remain unidentified. So far, 20 bodies have been handed over to family members, while six remain at the morgue of the Combined Military Hospital (CMH). The body of Flight Lieutenant Tawkir Islam, the deceased pilot, has been buried in Rajshahi.

According to the ISPR, a total of 165 people were injured in the incident. Among them, eight are receiving treatment at Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Hospital, 46 at the Burn Institute, three at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, 28 at CMH, 13 at Lubana General Hospital, 60 at Uttara Adhunik Hospital, one at Uttara Crescent Hospital, one at Shaheed Monsur Ali Medical College Hospital, two at United Hospital, and three at Kurmitola General Hospital.
