Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin is set to leave Dhaka on Thursday night (September 4) for a two-week trip to Canada to oversee voter registration activities for expatriates.
His personal secretary, Mohammad Ashraful Alam, confirmed the matter.
According to an office order signed by Election Commission Deputy Secretary Md Shah Alam, the CEC will return on September 18.
He will be accompanied by Md Lutful Kabir, district election officer of Lalmonirhat.
During his stay, the CEC will inaugurate voter registration and oversee the distribution of national identity cards in Toronto and Ottawa between September 5 and 12. From September 13 to 15, he will spend time in Vancouver for personal engagements.
At present, Bangladesh’s Election Commission is conducting voter registration activities through embassies in 17 stations across 10 countries, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, the UK, Italy, Kuwait, Qatar, Malaysia, Australia, Japan, and Canada. So far, nearly 50,000 applications have been received from expatriates in these countries.
