The fire that broke out at Sundarban Square Super Market in the capital’s Gulistan area has been brought under control this morning (Aug 2).
Members of the Fire Service brought the blaze under control at 11:12 am.
Earlier, the Fire Service received reports of the fire at 10:00 am on the fifth floor of the market.
Upon receiving the alert, the first unit of the Fire Service arrived at the scene at 10:03 am. Subsequently, ten more units joined the operation to bring the fire under control. Of these, two units remained on standby, while nine actively worked to contain the flames.
These details were provided at the scene by Director of Fire Service and Civil Defence Kazi Nazmuzzaman.
Meanwhile, around 11:00 am, smoke was still visible billowing from the market. Many traders were seen assisting the Fire Service in extinguishing the fire.
The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage could not be confirmed immediately.
