A major fire broke out at a jhut (fabric scrap) warehouse near Ahad Convention Hall on the Baklia Access Road in Chattogram city late on Friday night.

According to the Fire Service and Civil Defence, the blaze started at around 1:45 am on August 16. Nine fire-fighting units from four stations—Chandanpura, Kalurghat, Lama Bazar and Agrabad—were deployed to bring the fire under control.

Assistant Director of Fire Service and Civil Defence’s Chattogram Division, Md Anwar Hossain, told Banglanews that the fire was contained after nearly two hours and forty-five minutes of effort, at approximately 4:45 am on Saturday.

He confirmed that no casualties or missing persons had been reported.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and officials said an assessment of the damage is still underway. Fire service personnel continued operations at the site into the morning.

Local residents reported that smoke from the warehouse spread across an area of nearly two kilometres during the incident.
