India’s Border Security Force (BSF) handed over 16 Bangladeshi nationals to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at the zero point of the Taluigachha border in Satkhira following a flag meeting on Saturday (October 11).
Later that night, BGB transferred the group to Satkhira Sadar Police Station.
BGB officials said the BSF had detained the Bangladeshis around 10 pm on Friday (October 10) at India’s Hakimpur checkpost. Those repatriated are: Md Mosharaf Dhali, 57; Muslima Khatun, 29; Yunus Ali, 42; Sinha Khatun, 11; Morsalim Gazi, 7; Md Jillar Rahman, 23; Jharna Parvin, 37; Md Ashikuzzaman, 18; Rifat Hossain, 26; Md Shahinuzzaman, 28; Sharmin Sultana, 18; Sumaiya Akter, 3; Fatema Khatun, 22; Md Farzan Nabil, 3; Rubina Khatun, 29; and Al Amin, 26.
The returnees are residents of Shyamnagar upazila’s Atulia, Nababeki, Padmapukur, Kashimari and Chandipur unions in Satkhira, and of Koyra upazila in Khulna.
Satkhira Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge Shaminul Haque said identities would be verified before the individuals are released to their families.
