Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast thundershowers in three divisions, with partly cloudy skies elsewhere, and warned that six regions may see squally winds strong enough for river ports to hoist Cautionary Signal No. 1 on Saturday (October 18).
The department issued a bulletin this morning.
Assistant Meteorologist Kazi Jebunnesa said the season’s normal low lies over the South Bay of Bengal, with an associated trough extending to the North Bay.
Meteorologist Shahanaz Sultana said Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar could experience temporary rain or thundershowers with south/southeasterly gusts of 45–60 km/h.
River ports in these areas have been asked to display Cautionary Signal No. 1. Recent BMD inland river-port bulletins use the same wind threshold and signal protocol for these regions.
A 24-hour outlook valid through Sunday (October 19) morning says one or two places in Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions may see rain or thundershowers, while most other areas should remain mainly dry with partly cloudy skies.
Day and night temperatures across the country are likely to remain nearly unchanged—an assessment consistent with recent BMD short-range forecasts.
A similar forecast applies for the 24 hours from Sunday (October 19) morning.
