DHAKA: Police barred holding a grand rally Thursday at city’s Institution of Engineers’ by hundreds of nurses who gathered there and demonstrated to press home their 36-point demand.
Diploma Nurses Association (DNA) arranged the protest to press their demands, including extension of the tenure of Director of Nursing Services Directorate and putting an end to Bangladesh Medical Association’s interference in nurses’ affairs.
Police picked up DNA president Shahjahan Hawlder from the venue in the morning.
Shahbagh police, however, denied arresting anyone from the scene.
Later, the agitating nurses brought out a procession and formed a human chain in front of the National Press Club demanding immediate release of their president.
“We will go for work abstention for indefinite period across the country if our demands are not met,” DNA president of Dhaka Akram Ali said.
