RAJSHAHI:  At last police arrested agriculture officer Sheikh Mohammad Alamgir of Bagmara upazila on Wednesday night from Upashahar in the city in a cheating case for allegedly faking government-supplied fertilizer.

Firoz Kabir, SI of Bagmara Thana and investigator officer, said, “Sheikh Mohammad Alamgir got bail from the High Court in adulteration case, so we arrested him on a deception charge.”

Officer-in-Charge Harun -ar –Rashid told banglanews24.com.bd that Bagmara and Boalia Model Thana police in a joint raid arrested Alamgir following a deception case filed on Wednesday evening by Abdul Karim of Kasba village of the upazila.

He said police will appeal for seven days remand after producing him before court.

Police earlier had arrested three persons, including the agriculture officer’s peon, on July 9 from a godaown in Taherpur municipal area during adulteration of fertilizer. Meanwhile, police seized huge adulterated fertilizer and instruments. Then they sealed the godown.

A case was filed against five suspects, including the agriculture officer, with Bagmara Thana in this connection.  Sheikh Alamgir was suspended by order of Agricultural Department on 11 July. Thereafter, he went into hiding.
