DHAKA: The High Court on Sunday issued a rule upon the government to explain within two weeks why the bail of Hall-Mark Group Chairman Jesmine Islam should not be cancelled.
An HC vacation bench comprising Justice Nizamul Haque and Kashifa Hossain issued the rule in response to a writ petition filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Jasmine Islam and others concerned were made the respondents to the rule.
On August 4, a Dhaka court granted bail to Jesmine Islam in 11 cases over Sonali Bank loan scam signing bond to pay Tk.100 crore per month.
In bail condition, the judge said Jasmine Islam would have to pay Tk 2600 crore in 26 months.
On February 7 in 2013, Judge M Zahurul Haque granted ad-interim bail to Jesmine in all cases under the terms and conditions that she will repay Tk 2,600 crore swindled out money to Sonali Bank.
On October 17 in last year, RAB arrested Jasmin Islam, also wife of Hall-Mark Managing Director Tanvir Mahmud in Manikganj district.
On October 4, 2012, ACC filed 11 cases against 27 persons, including Jesmin Islam for their alleged involvement in misappropriating Tk 2686.14 crore.
