DHAKA: A total of nine formalin-free kitchen markets of the city will remain stop sale for 15 minutes on Wednesday demanding an immediate prohibition of imports, sales and distributions of formalin in open market.
The protest aimed to hand over the responsibility and control of imports, sales and distributions of formalin to Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) and an immediate action by passing a law titled ‘ Formalin control act’ in the national parliament.
The authorities of nine kitchen market marked as formalin-free by FBCCI will keep closed their sales and distributions from 12.00 noon to 12.15pm.
They also stage a human chain near Malibagh Railgate area on Wednesday.
Civil society individuals along with FBCCI leaders will attend the protest rally.

Several human rights activists and experts have suggested to form of a national body to ensure food safety along with food security and pressed for taking comprehensive efforts for removing misconception about the use of chemicals like formalin in food items.
