DHAKA: A total of 444 Bangladeshis have been detained during September 1-3 nationwide crackdown on illegal immigrants in Malaysia.
A press release signed by Director General (External Publicity) of the Foreign Ministry M Shameem Ahsan confirmed the matter to banglanews on Friday.
The press release notified that, Bangladesh Mission in Kuala Lumpur is still waiting for formal notification on the number and details of the Bangladesh nationals detained through special crackdown.
The Department of Immigration of Malaysia informed the Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur unofficially that during the special drive – Operasi PATI Bersepadu– A total of 444 Bangladesh nationals had been detained.
