DHAKA: The High Court on Sunday rejected a writ petition filed seeking a stay on the 1300-MM coal-fired power plant at Rampal near the Sundarbans.

An HC bench comprising Justice M Moazzam Hossain and Justice M Badruzzaman passed the order.

On September 29, four lawyers of the Supreme Court filed the writ petition and the court fixed October 3 for its hearing.

But the hearing could not be held on the day as a joint bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Zafar Ahmed felt embarrassed to take up the petition for hearing.

Later, the writ petition was sent to Chief Justice M Muzammel Hossain for taking necessary steps.

The Chief Justice then sent the petition to the bench of M Moazzam Hossain and Justice M Badruzzaman for hearing.
