CHANDPUR: Miscreants attacked motorcade of the former home minister Dr MK Alamgir in Ujani Madrasa area under Kachua upazila of the district on Thursday afternoon.

Witnesses said an agitated group of miscreants in the crowd attacked the former minister while he was attending a mahfil, a gathering of Islamic devotees, in the area around 4:30pm.

The former home minister was assaulted at the scene as well by the crowd, said a spot a account of the incident.

However, the angry mob vandalized three vehicles, including the private car of the lawmaker.

Police personnel and the members of congregation organizing committee rescued MK Alamgir from the possession.

Police also opened fire to bring the situation under control, police sources said.

Assistant Police Super of the district Abu Hanif confirmed the matter to banglanews.
