BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday said that at least 422 martyrs out of 875 in the July-August protests against Sheikh Hasina's regime were affiliated with his party.
He gave the information while speaking at a press conference at the BNP Chairperson’s Gulshan office in the capital.
He said the people of Bangladesh tasted freedom once again on August 5 by dismantling 16 years of autocratic rule and paving the way for democracy.
According to various reports, 875 people were martyred across Bangladesh till August 13 in the July massacre, of which at least 422 were involved with BNP, he said.
He said the BNP played a pivotal organisational role in the mass uprising with the aim of toppling fascism and establishing a democratic Bangladesh.
