Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has called for a national referendum to be held in November and urged the Election Commission (EC) to make contingency preparations for conducting the next parliamentary polls under a proportional representation (PR) system.
The party’s Nayeb-e-Ameer, Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher, made the remarks on Monday (Oct 13) after talks with Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin and other commissioners at Nirbachan Bhaban in Dhaka.
Earlier in the day, the Jamaat-e-Islami delegation, led by Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher, held a meeting with the CEC around 12:15 pm.
The meeting took place amid the Commission’s ongoing outreach with political parties ahead of the next national elections.
