Former planning minister and ex-lawmaker for Sunamganj-3 MA Mannan has been sent to jail.
On Friday (September 20) morning, he was produced in Sunamganj Judicial Magistrate Court where Judge Farhan Sadiq ordered to send him to prison after the hearing.
Advocate Mashuk Alam, the plaintiff's lawyer, confirmed the matter.
Sources familiar with the matter said, the former minister was brought before the court in connection with the attack and clash with the students during the anti-discrimination student movement. After the hearing of both sides, the court ordered to send him to jail.
Mannan's lawyer Shafiqul Islam said, “We tried to convince the court that his physical condition is not good. However, the court, after considering all aspects, sent him to jail.”
Mashuk Alam, the lawyer for the plaintiff, said that the former minister was sent to jail because there was no relevant court today.
“On the next date, we will seek his remand to uncover all the details about who planned the attack on the students," Mashuk added.
Police arrested Mannan in a raid on his residence in Shantiganj of Sunamganj on Thursday night.
