11 Shibir activists detained in Dhaka, sued for subversion

DHAKA: Police picked up 11 activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir from the city’s Jatrabari area early Monday when they were pasting posters with demand for “immediate” release of the arrested three top Jamaat leaders.

Police said they were pasting posters in different areas of the capital. “A huge number of posters with anti-government propaganda were seized from the activists.”

The detained Shibir activists are: Shafiqul Islam, Mamun, Shamim, Sohel, Imam Hossain, Saiful Islam, Asaduzzaman, Abul Hasnat, Mahmud, Imran and Sohag.

Sub-inspector of Jatrabari police station Jiarat Ali said, ”On information, police conducted drives in Shaheed Faruque roa+d, Sayedabad, Dholaipar and Mir Hajirbagh areas of Jatrabari and nabbed them as they were sticking posters.”  

Cases were filed against the Shibir activists on charge of committing “subversive acts” through anti-government activities, said police.
