DHAKA: A Dhaka court issued arrest warrant against Akhtar Hamid Paban, son of BNP Secretary-General Khandaker Delwar Hossain, and two others in the case of bomb explosions in front of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia`s Gulshan office on February 23.

The other accused are Noakhali JCD president Omar Faruq and alleged ‘Dakat’ Babu.

Paban’s friend Pradip Saha, Golam Sabbir alias Shovon and Sultan Hassan Roni have been detained in jail in the case.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Ismail Hossain took the charge into cognizance against the accused, who are on the run, and issued the arrest warrant.

Retired Major Mohammad Hanif, deputy coordinator in the cell of BNP chairperson’s office, filed the case on February 24.

Later on May 27, Ziaur Rahman, inspector of Dhaka metropolitan detective police, submitted a charge sheet to the court against the suspects following depositions by 33 witnesses.

The case stated that earlier on February 23 “some unidentified attackers” exploded two bombs in front of the office of Khaleda.

The DB police arrested Paban’s friend Golam Sabbir Shovon following information extracted from one Pradip Saha who was arrested earlier in connection with the blasts.

Later, the charge sheet was given to show arrest of others, including Paban, on the basis of deposition by Pradip.

The court set August 31 for the police to submit a report on their action based on the court orders.
