Tarique charge-sheeted to banish him from politics: Nazrul

DHAKA: Opposition BNP Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan Tuesday said the charge sheet given by the Anti-Corruption Commission against Tarique Rahman is to deter him from getting down to politics.

“The case is politically motivated. Awami League is scared of Tarique and that is why they are trying to keep him at bay from politics again,” Khan said at a press conference at the BNP chairperson’s office at Gulshan, shortly after Tarique was charge-sheeted in a money-laundering case.

BNP arranged the press conference to ask the government once more to disclose whereabouts of its leader and city councillor Chowdhury Alam. The party also announced a rally to be held on July 10 at Muktangan in this regard.

Khan said Chowdhury Alam has been missing for the last 12 days. “He is a citizen of Bangladesh. If he was arrested by law enforcers, they should produce him before court. We want to know his whereabouts”, he added.

BNP Joint Secretary-General Aman Ullah Aman and Jatiyatabadi Mahila Dal President Nure Ara Safa were present.
