Jamaat wants national polls by Mid-February 2026

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has expressed its preference for the next national election to be held by mid-February 2026.

The party’s Ameer, Dr Shafiqur Rahman, made the statement on Tuesday (April 29) while speaking at a views-exchange meeting at Kulaura Municipality auditorium in Moulvibazar.

He said that since the holy month of Ramadan will begin in March next year, it would be better if the election is held in mid-February.

“We want to see the Chief Adviser remain committed to his word. We don’t expect him to change it,” the Jamaat Ameer said, adding that some reform issues are involved, and therefore, elections may or may not be held in December.
