Senior Advocate AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon today (May 22) said that there is now no legal bar to administering the oath to BNP leader Ishraque Hossain as Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayor.
He made the statement after the High Court on Wednesday rejected a writ petition challenging the court verdict that declared Ishraque as mayor.
Khokon said that any delay in administering the oath would amount to contempt of court.
The writ was filed by DSCC resident Md Mamunur Rashid and was rejected by the HC bench of Justice Md Akram Hossain Chowdhury and Justice Debasish Roy Chowdhury.
The Election Commission (EC) issued a gazette declaring Ishraque mayor on 27 April.
