BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi today (June 28) said the party expects a clear election timeframe following a meeting between Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus and Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin.

Speaking to reporters after visiting the China-Bangladesh Friendship Conference Centre — the venue for BNP’s 36-day anniversary events marking the July-August mass uprising — Rizvi said people’s hopes must be reflected in the election schedule.

He said the interim government should ensure a free and fair vote within a logical timeframe and focus on reviving the economy, which he claimed is under threat.

Rizvi also said that the country must be freed from political “godfathers” and urged for true democratic accountability in the next election.
