A local Jubo League leader has been arrested early Friday (July 4) from his residence in Uttarpara area of the upazila in Meherpur.

The arrestee Shafi Kamal Palash is the general secretary of the’s Gangni upazila unit. He was also a lecturer at Gangni Pilot School and College.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gangni Police Station Bani Israil confirmed the matter.

He said, “We are reviewing the cases against him. A decision will be taken based on verification.”

Shafi had been in hiding for a long time following the July-August movement. He is reportedly accused in several cases, including one related to an attack on the anti-discrimination student movement, he added.

Currently, he remains in the custody of Gangni Police Station, and legal procedures are underway.
