DHAKA: According to unofficial results of 88 upazila council polls out of 91, ruling Awami League (AL)-backed candidates won in 55 upazilas while Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)-backed candidates won in 23 upazilas in the fourth phase of upazila elections.

Awami League

The ruling Awami League-backed candidates won in Kalaikoir (Rezaul Karim Russel), of Gazipur, Nabiganj (Alamgir Chowdhury) of Habiganj, Katiadi (Ohab Uddin), Mithamoin (Shahid Bhuiyan), Itna (Kamrul Hasan) of Kishoreganj, Kalihati (Mozharul Islam Talukdar), Bhuiyapur (Advocate Abdul Halim), and Madhupur (Sarowar Alam Khan) of Tangail, Kalaroa (Firoz Ahmed Shawpan) of Satkhira, Sylhet Sadar (Alhaj Ashfak Ahmed) of Sylhet, Rajapur (Principal Moniruzzaman Monir), Kathalia (Faruk Shikdar), Jhalokati Sadar (Sultan Hossain), Nalchity (Advocate Yunus Lashkar) of Jhalokati, Bochaganj (Farhad Hossain Chowdhury) of Dinajpur, Shreemangal (Ranadheer Kumar Dev), Kamalganj (Professor Rafiqur Rahman) of Maulvibazar, Daulatpur (Firoz Paul) of Kushtia,  Fulgazi (Ekramul Haque Ekram) and Sonagazi (ZM Kamrul Anam) of Feni, Tazumuddin (Wahid Ullah Jashim), Manpura upazila (Selina Akhter Chowdhury), Daulatkhan (Manzurul Alam) of Bhola, Faridpur (Khalilur Rahman) of Pabna, Banaripara (Golam Faruk), Wazirpur (Hafizur Rahman), Agailjhara (Golam Mortuza Khan) of Barisal, Raozan (AKM Ehsanul Haydar), Rangunia (Mohammad Ali Shah), Anwara (Tauhidul Islam) of Chittagong, Boalkhali (Ataul Haque), Fatikchhari (Tauhidul Alam Babu) of Chittagong, Pirojpur Sadar (Mujibur Rahman Khalek) and Mathbaria (Ashrafur Rahman) of Pirojpur, Batiaghata (Ashraful Alam Khan), Dacope (Sheikh Abul Hossain), Terokhada (Sarfuddin Biswas Bachchu), Phultala (Sheikh Akram Hossain), Rupsha (Kamal Uddin Badsha) of Khulna, Ishwardi (Mokhlesur Rahman Mintu) of Pabna, Mirzaganj (Abu Bakar Siddik), Patuakhali Sadar (Tanimuzzaman Moni), Golachipa (Shamsuzzaman Likon), Baufal (Mujibur Rahman) of Patuakhali, Bagmara (Jakirul Islam Santu) of Rajshahi, Jessore Sadar (Shahin Chakladar), Keshabpur (HM Amir Hossain) of Jessore, Chitalmari (Muzibur Rahman Shamim), Mollahat (Shahinul Alam Sana) of Bagerhat, Meghna of Comilla, Ajmiriganj (Atar Ali), Lakhai (Mushfiqul Alam)) of Habiganj, Haluaghat (Faruk Ahmed Khan) of Mymensingh, Jibannagar (Abdul Latif) of Chuadanga, Nasirnagar (ATM Muniruzzaman) of Brahmanbaria.
 

BNP

The BNP-backed candidates won in Norail Sadar (Moniruzzaman) Nagarpur (Abdus Samad Dulal) of Tangail, Madan (MA Hares) of Netrokona, Akhaura (Engineer Muslem Uddin) of Brahmanbaria, Chauhali (Abdullah-Al-Mamun) of Sirajganj, Ramu (Ahmedul Haque) Cox’s Bazar, Kanaighat (Ashik Chowdhury) of Sylhet, Harinakunda (Advocate MM Mazid) of Jhenaidah, Begumganj (Advocate Abdur Rahim) of Noakhali, Betagi upazila (Shahjahan Kabir) of Barguna district, Dhamrai (Tamiz Uddin) of Dhaka, Gabtali (Morshed Miltan) of Bogra, Pirganj (Ziaul Islam Zia) of Thankurgoan, Nalitabari (Mokhlesur Rahman Ripon) of Sherpur, Tanore (Emran Mollah), Puthia (Anwarul Islam) of Rajshahi, Shalla (Ganendra Chandra Sarkar), Dharmapasha (Abdul Motaleb Khan) of Sunamganj, Barura (Abdul Khalek) of Comilla, Moulvibazar Sadar (Mizanur Rahman) of Moulvibazar, Pulbari (Khurshid Alam Mati) of Dinajpur, Baraigram (Ekramul Alam) of Natore, Shahrasti (Delwar Hossain) of Chandpur.

Jamaat

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami-backed aspirants won in Banshkhali (Jahirul Islam), Satkania (Jasim Uddin), of Chittagong, Zianagar (Masud Saidi) of Pirojpur, Naikkhangchari (Tofail Ahmed) of Bandarban and Panchbibi upazila (Professor Mustafijur Rahman) of Joypurhat district.


OTHER

Among others Janashanghati Samiti aspirant won in Jurachori (Udjay Chakma) of Rangamati district. Independent candidates won in Tarail (Kanchan), Bhairab (Giash Uddin) of Kishoreganj, Bhandaria (Atikul Islam) of Pirojpur, Habiganj Sadar (Ahmadul Haque) of Habiganj.

Earlier, the election took place in 91 upazilas of 43 districts across the country from 8:00am to 4:00pm Sunday without any break amid stray violence.
