BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has compared the oppression carried out by Awami League leaders to the tyranny of Yazid’s forces, drawing parallels as the nation prepares to observe the holy Ashura.
In a message issued on the eve of Ashura, Tarique Rahman said the 10th of Muharram is a significant and mournful day for Muslims, marking the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), the beloved grandson of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH).
He said Imam Hussain (RA) made the ultimate sacrifice in the desert of Karbala while fighting against injustice and oppression. “This day is a day of mourning, respect and sacrifice,” he said.
Imam Hussain’s stand as a timeless inspiration for Muslims and oppressed people worldwide, adding that the sacrifice reminds everyone of the essence of justice, sacrifice and dignity centred on faith, he added.
He accused the Awami League of establishing a reign of exploitation and oppression over the past 16 years, including rigged elections, enforced disappearances, killings, corruption and siphoning off national wealth. He also said the imprisonment of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in what he called a false case and her lack of proper medical treatment.
Tarique Rahman said the repression by Awami League leaders who fled abroad is no different from the Yazid forces’ tyranny.
He urged people to continue the struggle to establish justice and resist any new tyrant, inspired by Imam Hussain’s sacrifice.
