A local Jubo Dal leader was expelled over alleged involvement in an attack, vandalism, and looting at an under-construction cement factory in Narsingdi.
The leader was identified as Monir Uzzaman Monir, president of the Jubo Dal’s Danga Union unit in Palash upazila.
Nazmul Islam Sumon, assistant office secretary of Narsingdi district Jubo Dal signed a press release regarding dismissal of Monir on July 7.
District Jubo Dal in a statement said Monir has been removed from the party due to "clear allegations" of violating party discipline and engaging in activities against the party’s principles and organizational values.
According to press release, “Based on specific complaints of breach of party discipline and involvement in activities contrary to the party’s ideology and organizational interest, Monir Uzzaman Monir, president of Jubo Dal’s Danga Union unit under Palash upazila, has been expelled from the party, including his primary membership.”
The decision was jointly approved and enforced by Narsingdi district Jubo Dal president Mohsin Hossain Bidyut and general secretary Hasanuzzaman Sarkar Hasan.
According to police and factory sources, on July 3 around noon, a group of 25 to 30 armed men led by Monir arrived by two trawlers at the construction site of Confidence Cement Factory in Danga Union. They allegedly entered the premises and vandalized six rooms. The attackers also looted mobile phones, laptops, and other valuables from the site.
Seven workers were reportedly injured during the incident. Following the attack, Nurul Islam, the factory's security officer, filed a written complaint with Palash Police Station, naming Monir and 25 others.
Palash police arrested Monir on the night of July 5 based on the complaint. He was later sent to jail following a court hearing.
Police say investigations are ongoing and further legal action will follow.
