BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has thanked the interim government for arresting former chief justice ABM Khairul Haque.

Speaking at the BNP Chairperson's office in Gulshan, Fakhrul said, “He is a great enemy of the country who misused his top position to betray the people.”

He called for a fair investigation and exemplary punishment for Khairul Haque, so that no one in high office can harm the nation in the future.

The former chief justice, who served from October 2010 to May 2011, was arrested by the Detective Branch earlier today. 

His verdict in 2011 scrapped the caretaker government system, sparking long-term political controversy.
