NOAKHALI: Daylong hartal, called by six candidates of municipal election, is underway in a relaxed mood in Begumganj upazila of the district on Sunday.

The six candidates called hartal demanding re-election in Chaumuhani Municipality.

Earlier, in a press conference at Chaumuhani Public Hall, the mayoral aspirants made the hartal announcement.

No long route vehicles left the Municipal area, but battery run easy bikes, and CNG-run auto rickshaw were seen plying as usual.

Besides, no procession or picketing was seen in the area. But all types of shops remained closed.

On February 13, LGRD ministry declared the mayor post vacant as Mayor Mamunur Rashid was elected Member of Parliament of the tenth national election on January 5.
